CAREMED: Advancing Health Innovation Through Tunisia Pilot Activities

From 23 to 27 February, the CAREMED – Community-based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health project took a major step forward as partner ICU – Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria carried out a mission in Tunisia to advance the planning of pilot activities.

The mission, hosted at the headquarters of the Tunisian partner Direction des Soins de Santé de Base (DSSB), focused on in-depth discussions on pilot actions in selected Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs). Partners worked together to select the PHCs based on DSSB’s needs assessment and to define cascade activities and engagement methods for beneficiaries.

Through the Local Technical Committees (LTCs), DSSB mobilised regional and local health authorities to involve healthcare staff, patients, and citizens. This approach ensured coordinated planning, active stakeholder participation, and alignment of activities with local needs while maintaining consistency with project objectives.

DSSB and ICU representatives also met with the National Contact Points at the Ministry of Economy and Planning, reinforcing institutional coordination and alignment with national strategies and regulatory frameworks. These exchanges strengthened cooperation, enhanced dialogue with authorities, and supported the long-term impact and sustainability of CAREMED activities in Tunisia.

The mission demonstrated the strong commitment of all partners to collaborative planning and effective implementation, paving the way for the successful launch of CAREMED pilot activities and the achievement of the project’s objectives in Tunisia.
