Overview:
1) The project aim is the recovery and the stabilisation of the production of three agricultural cooperatives affected by the 2006 war and the improvement of the social, economic and environmental conditions of the local population.
Activities:
– village of Hermel: construction of the cooperative’s olive mill building;
– village of Nabi Othman: construction of the cooperative’s conservation centre for fruit and vegetable;
– village of Btedhi: completing of a new irrigation system;
– office furniture for the cooperative of Hermel and Nabi Othman; 1 bottling line for olive oil; 4 olive oil containers with a capacity of 1,000 litres each; 1 laboratory for oil analysis full equipped; material for capers
farming, preparation and conservation; 1 electrical and 1 mechanical elevator for boxes; 1,120 plastic boxes for fruit transport; 3,000 fruit trees; equipment for irrigation system;
– organization of 30 training sessions and 90 field visits on different subjects as: olive mill management (Hermel), agricultural fridge management (Nabi Ohman), irrigation system management (Betdhi), fertilisation,
pruning, olive oil analysis, trees diseases treatment and plant nursery. This activity includes the publication of technical brochures in Arab language that will be distributed to the beneficiary villages.
Results:
– cooperative of Bthedi: irrigation system for 96 families completed; 4,400 apple trees distributed;
– cooperative of Hermel: olive mill building constructed; bottling line for olive oil, oil containers, laboratory for
oil analysis, material for capers farming, preparation and conservation available;
– cooperative of Nabi Othman: centre for agricultural fridge constructed; electrical and mechanical elevator,
plastic boxes for fruit transport, office equipment available.
