As part of the “TADAMUN: Essential Services and Protection for Displaced Persons and Vulnerable Communities” project (AID 013508/02/1), implemented by ICU – Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria and funded by Italy through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – Beirut Office (AICS Beirut), support continues for displaced people who have been affected by the conflict in Lebanon.
The first distributions took place in 11 shelters in the Chouf, El Metn and Aley districts, in the Mount Lebanon Governorate, reaching a total of 369 highly vulnerable households.
The activities included the distribution of essential items to address families’ immediate needs, including:
- 356 family hygiene kits, containing personal and menstrual hygiene products;
- 240 family food kits, containing ready-to-eat products to ensure immediate access to essential food items;
- 33 hygiene kits for children;
- 5 incontinence kits;
- 190 packs of diapers for infants, older people and persons with disabilities.
The project also includes the preparation and distribution of 600 hot meals per day through the Access Kitchen community kitchens of project partner LUPD in Beirut, Saida and Zahle, supporting displaced people living outside shelters in the surrounding areas.
Through the TADAMUN project, ICU continues to provide timely, dignified and inclusive assistance, in close coordination with local authorities and other organisations working in the area.
The project aims to ensure that displaced people affected by the conflict in Lebanon have timely access to basic assistance and adequate hygiene and sanitary conditions, with particular attention to persons with disabilities and older people, both inside and outside shelters.
In particular, TADAMUN works to improve hygiene conditions and access to essential services and goods through the distribution of hygiene kits, the sanitation of collective centres, and the provision of specialised equipment and kits for persons with disabilities and older people. The project also contributes to strengthening food security and the resilience of people affected by the conflict through the preparation and distribution of hot meals and food kits, as well as assistance and protection activities and emergency cash assistance.
The intervention provides concrete support to people and families in need, helping ensure access to essential goods and more dignified living conditions in a context still affected by the consequences of the conflict.
