From 17 to 21 August 2026, the VET4HYDROGEN – Strengthening TVET Capacities for a Green Hydrogen Economy in Kenya project held its first Training of Trainers (ToT) at the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET).

The training brought together trainers from the 20 TVET institutions selected to participate in the project, representing different regions and counties across Kenya. The first cohort focused on two technical disciplines: Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

The five-day training explored how green hydrogen (GH2) can be applied within these existing areas of specialisation. Trainers were introduced to relevant GH2 concepts, applications and teaching approaches, with the aim of strengthening their capacity to integrate emerging green hydrogen skills into existing technical training.

The ToT was designed to go beyond introducing trainers to the green hydrogen sector. A key objective was to help them connect emerging GH2 opportunities with the knowledge and skills already taught within Kenya’s TVET system. This approach supports the development of training pathways that are relevant to the country’s evolving green hydrogen ecosystem while building on existing technical expertise.

With the curriculum rollout beginning in September, participating trainers will bring the knowledge and competencies gained during the ToT back to their respective institutions. They will contribute to the delivery of GH2-related training and applications within their fields of specialisation, extending the project’s activities across the 20 participating TVET institutions.

By strengthening the capacity of trainers across different regions and technical disciplines, VET4HYDROGEN is contributing to a broader and more geographically distributed skills base for Kenya’s emerging green hydrogen economy.

VET4HYDROGEN is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is led by ICU – Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria, in partnership with TVET CDACC, Strathmore University and Eastlands College of Technology.
