On 7 October 2022, within the framework of the ALMA project, a fair was held to present the products made by women from rural areas (Solola, Chimaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepequez departments), coinciding with the visit of the European Union, the funder of the activities. In an explosion of different colours and shapes, the fair promoted the work of the Ixoqui S.A and Las Gravileas centres, giving more than 200 women and girls involved the opportunity to display and sell their handicrafts, textiles and gastronomic products. Amidst tasty jams and typical local garments, the event celebrated the work and dignity of women and their value within communities, all in the setting of the old Las Capuchinas Convent in Antigua, which received recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 7 October 43 years ago.
Representing the ICU was Deputy Director Barbara Cosentino alongside representatives of local partners FUDI and ACOE. Particularly interesting was the speech by Alberto Cortezòn, head of the European Union delegation in Guatemala, who looked back with enthusiasm on the work done so far and with even more interest in the future of activities.
