The project is funded by AFD – Agence française de développement and implemented by ICU and Amref Health Africa (France/Kenya) in partnership with the French Red Cross, Burundi Red Cross, and Fondation Mérieux.
The main objective of Amagara Yacu is to contribute to improving the quality of primary healthcare services and epidemiological surveillance in Burundi.
The program includes:
- Capacity building for healthcare workers: development and implementation of high-quality continuous training programs, primarily through e-learning, targeting midwives and nurses in the Ngozi and Muramvya provinces. This training covers sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, and gender mainstreaming. The training strategy was developed in close collaboration with the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) and the Directorate of Human Resources for Health (DRH) of the Ministry of Public Health.
Improvement of the national blood transfusion system: support for the centralization and enhancement of the national blood transfusion system by strengthening the capacities of the CNTS and the CRTS in Ngozi.
