From 24 to 28 August 2026, the second Training of Trainers (ToT) cohort of the VET4HYDROGEN – Strengthening TVET Capacities for a Green Hydrogen Economy in Kenya project took place at the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET).
The training brought together trainers from the 20 TVET institutions participating in the project, with the second cohort focusing on Instrumentation & Control Technology and Mechanical Engineering Plant.
The training explored the practical relevance of green hydrogen (GH2) within these technical disciplines, moving from a shared understanding of the sector to the specific knowledge and skills needed in each field. Particular attention was given to strengthening both technical knowledge and the capacity to deliver competency-based training.
Through practical learning activities and micro-teaching sessions, trainers worked on translating GH2 concepts into structured and relevant learning experiences for their future students. This approach aims to support trainers in connecting emerging green hydrogen applications with the technical skills already developed within Kenya’s TVET system.
With the rollout of the revised curricula beginning in September, the participating trainers will bring the knowledge and competencies gained during the ToT back to their respective institutions, contributing to the implementation of GH2-related training.
By strengthening trainers’ capacity in technical disciplines that are relevant to the emerging green hydrogen sector, VET4HYDROGEN is supporting the development of a skilled workforce equipped to respond to new opportunities in Kenya’s energy transition.
VET4HYDROGEN is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is led by ICU – Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria, in partnership with TVET CDACC, Strathmore University and Eastlands College of Technology.
