Beneficiaries inside a greenhouse
The General Objective of the project is to contribute to the economic and social stabilization of the South Tunisian. This will be achieved through the promotion of 58 pilot projects for efficient irrigation, training of 2,000 farmers and 30 horticultures and technical assistance in requesting national subsidies for irrigation.
The project will take place in the Delegation of El Faouar, Kebili Governorate (South Tunisia), a region with a high poverty index. The 16,390 inhabitants are mainly employed in agriculture (48.7%) and unemployment is around 25%. The project therefore has a strategic importance for the economy of an area considered by the Tunisian government priority area of regional development.
Its strategy is based on three pillars: training, the private sector, governance strategic for the achievement of specific objective: improved opportunities for income generation of farmers of the oases in the delegation of El Faouar.
